Salt water damaged iPhone 6
Extremely corroded, especially when viewed under the microscope. Phone required: ultrasonic cleaning, board level repair to relieve any shorts and replacing few components, screen connector, and various other parts needed replacement as well.
The iPhone came back o life and data was recovered.
Despite popular belief, salt water is actually “better” when it comes to liquid damage. It is still bad but what “better” about it is that, when salt water is introduced into the phone, it will actually short out the phone faster than regular water, minimizing the damage. The phone will look worse, but will be easier to recover.
- Phone as it first arrived. Very corroded.
- Main board after removal.
- Visible corrosion under the microscope.
- After clean up, the board looked better, but the short was still present, but that was eventually relieved.
- After all the repairs, and plugging the phone to a good known screen and power source. The phone came back to life and data was recovered.
